Inspired by punk rock, heavy metal and indie rock, grunge is generally thick and full sound of heavy guitar distortion and lyrical melancholy or apatism. Grunge originally only appearing occasionally (and even then with difficulty) at its inception, became popular with the presence of the legendary band Nirvana.
